Choosing games by genre, not by screenshots

Choosing games by genre, not by screenshots

August 19, 2026 · Elina Vranová

People often ask us to recommend a game and the first question back is always: how much time and attention do you actually have? That matters more than genre labels, but genres are a decent shortcut once you know what each one tends to demand.

RPGs like Emberfall Chronicles are a commitment — they reward long sessions and remember your choices, so they suit people who like sinking into something. Strategy games such as Dominion Tide ask for your brain but not your reflexes; great if you like to think, bad if you want to zone out.

On the lighter end, adventure games like Hollow Lantern are perfect for commutes, and casual spinners or sims let you play in tiny bursts. Racing is the exception — fun in short doses but hard on your battery and your focus.

The trap is buying into a screenshot. A game can look like a sprawling epic and play like a ten-minute loop. Read how long the reviewer actually played before you trust the score. That's half the reason we tell you our play time.
